I recently bought a second hand controller to replace a broken one but when i plug it into the track and put a train on it makes a buzzing noise. Is there any way to stop this?Does it damage my trains?

Is it standard DC power or a DCC controller. If you have a DCC controller and put a conventional DC engine on the rail, that noise you are hearing is called “background EMF.” If left standing for a longer period, or running for an extended period can cause overheating problems. So, the place to start is, “DC or DCC?”
